Location and General Information

The Division of Pediatric Dermatology is located at 1701 Divisadero, at the Mt. Zion Campus of UC San Francisco. We see approximately 4,000 visits per year in the division at the Mt. Zion campus as well as approximately 150 to 200 inpatient consults per year. Some fellows act as Clinical Instructors at San Francisco General Hospital, where there are approximately 750 to 800 patient visits in a dedicated Pediatric Dermatology service, held in the Pediatric Ambulatory Center one half day per week.

Surgical and Laser Training
We have an active laser practice, primarily treating vascular anomalies, but also other birthmarks and skin conditions. We have regularly scheduled pediatric dermatology surgical practices to perform laser surgeries and perform excisional surgeries on patients with moles, cysts, birthmarks, and other skin conditions. Laser surgeries are also performed in the UCSF Ambulatory Surgery Center at the Parnassus campus, for those children who need general anesthesia.

Ancillary Services
Fellows participate monthly in the Vascular Anomalies Conference and quarterly in an Ectodermal Dysplasia Conference. Beginning in 2003, a joint Pediatric Dermatology-Pediatric Rheumatology conference will occur quarterly. A joint Dermatology-Genetics service is in the planning stage as is a Tuberous Sclerosis service, located at Oakland Childrens Hospital.

Research
We participate in a number of research projects including NIH-sponsored research, the Hemangioma Investigator Group, and industry-sponsored research projects. All fellows are expected to engage in some form of scholarly research and are encouraged to take the Training in Clinical Research Course (TICR).
